[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Apunba Manipur Matam Eshei Kanglup (AMMIK) is organising the first Manipur Matam Eshei (modern song) Festival 2014 for two days beginning June 12 at Lamyanba Sanglen.
This was announced by the spokesperson of the AMMIK Narendra Ningongba during a press conference held at the Manipur Press Club at Majorkhul in Imphal today.
The main idea behind organising the modern song festival is to produce creative music of Manipuri style having a regional touch. Besides introducing new modern Manipuri songs,more than 20 different music bands of the state will be participating in the festival.There will be a performance of non-professional and old aged singers on the first day of the festival. Pioneers singers such as Laishram Birendrakumar, Aribam Syam, Asem Bimola, Sagolsem Indrakumar, Chongtham Kamala, Phurailatpam Iboyaima, Chongtham Sanatombi, Arambam Jamuna, Yanglu Golmei and Yensembam Bilashini will also be participating in the forthcoming music festival.
Popular court yard play artist cum lyricist Narendra Ningomba further appealed to all the singers of the state to cooperate for successful organisation of the festival.He also appeal to the other organisation not to organise concert or called any kind of agitation on these days in the interest of the general public. If any artist violates the norms of the upcoming festival,the AMMIK will take up serious action if any.
Today’s press conference was also attended by AMMIK president Dr Hamom Nabachandra, Vice presidents S Tijendro and Sh Nabachandra and other seniors members.
Students storm MPSC office:Members of the Joint Students Coordinating Committee led by its Convenor Thangjam Premananda and Co-Convenor Ngamba today stormed into the Manipur Public Service Commission office at North AOC in Imphal and locked the gate of the office demanding to reconduct the examination of the Manipur Civil Service Examination 2014.
Committee’s members numbering around 40-50 students stormed the MPSC office at around 1.45 pm and locked up the main gate by using a locker.
Later a police team led by an Officer in Charge of the Imphal Police Station came and pacify the situation and unlocked the gate. Interestingly MPSC is being guarded by armed police personnel.They were were also inside the campus when it was locked by the student volunteers.
