DIMAPUR — The Modern Institute of Teacher Education (MITE), Kohima, successfully organised its extension-cum-outreach activity titled “Campus to Community (C2C): Gen Z to silent generation” in Viswema village on Wednesday.

An update from the institute stated that the initiative saw B.Ed. 3rd semester student-teachers engaging directly with the village's elderly to foster inter-generational dialogue and facilitate cultural preservation.

It stated that the student-teachers, representing the younger generation, were organised into groups and visited families across Viswema. Their mission was to connect with elderly members, often referred to as the silent generation, to document personal stories, traditions and the ancestral ways of life.

It added that the interaction was crucial for the students to gain deeper insights into community values and the cultural identity of Nagaland, turning traditional knowledge into a living lesson.

The highlight of the day was the shared meal, where each student group had lunch with the elder they were assigned to. It stated that the informal setting fostered genuine bonding and symbolised unity and mutual respect between the youth and the elderly, making the cross-generational exchange particularly warm and memorable.

It further stated that the ‘Campus to Community’ initiative effectively underscored the necessity of bridging the gap between generations, while actively nurturing empathy and respect—core values for future educators. It added that through such outreach, MITE continues to fulfill its mission of extending learning beyond the classroom, thereby strengthening the vital bond between the campus and the community.
