
Achumbemo Kikon delivers his speech during the 14th
foundation-cum-cultural day celebration at MITE.
- DIMAPUR — The
14th foundation-cum-cultural day of Modern Institute of Teacher Education
(MITE) was observed on Saturday in the presence of MLA Achumbemo Kikon as the
special guest.
- According to a press release, speaking on the occasion,
Kikon discussed the importance of the role of politicians, as they determine
students' present and future.
- He emphasised the importance of reading and thoroughly
equipping oneself to make an impact. Throughout, he referenced instances from
the book The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.
- On traditions, citing examples from the cultural performance
displayed by student-teachers, Kikon praised them and reiterated that although
traditions embody respect for one another, people have become cynical.
- He further challenged the student-teachers not to stop
pursuing academic excellence and cautioned that, unlike in the past, without
proper training, one would become disoriented. He noted that to prevent society
from becoming stagnant, the educated must show a sense of direction.
- He also challenged the student-teachers to be serious
readers and use technology judiciously. He stated that reading Aristotle and
similar thinkers would mean sitting and listening to them.
- Also present at the programme were Kaisa Hekha, chairperson
of MITE; Pelee Hekha, managing director of MITE; Mekhro, chairman of AG Colony
and his colleague; Dr. Kate Dandesh Kumar, principal of MITE; Dr HL Gangte,
vice-principal of MITE; Dr. Surender Yadav, board member of MITE and assistant
professor at Nagaland University; as well as the staff and student-teachers of
MITE.
- The principal, in his speech highlighting the achievements
of the college, reiterated that everything is a collective effort and that
teamwork has been the strength.
