Modern College Kohima hosted IGNOU orientation and a mock parliament to promote learning and parliamentary awareness.

DIMAPUR — Modern College, in collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Regional Centre-20, Kohima, and the Department of Political Science, organised a one-day programme on “IGNOU orientation and mock parliament” at the college's Indoor Stadium on September 26.
The event aimed to create awareness about educational opportunities under IGNOU and to provide students with an experiential understanding of parliamentary procedures, stated a press release.
The programme was chaired by Ketuoseno Vielie, a 5th-semester student of Political Science, with a welcome address by S Anthony, head of the Department of Political Science.
Dr. Premila Swamy D, regional director, IGNOU RC-20, Kohima, spoke on “Opportunities and prospects under IGNOU”, while Dr. Mayonmi Shimray, assistant regional director, highlighted the “Dual programme provision under NEP 2020”.

A major highlight was the mock parliament session conducted by the Department of Political Science, Modern College students.
The session aimed to give students first-hand experience of parliamentary debates, with discussions on issues such as “One nation, one election”, the “National Sports Governance Bill”, the “Women’s Reservation Bill”, and the “Manipur riot”.
Akash Chettri from the Treasury Bench and Lamgousang from the Opposition Bench were adjudged the best speakers of the session.
