DIMAPUR — A faculty and staff training on "Psychological first aid, identification of warning signs, response to self-harm and referral mechanisms" was organised by Model Christian College, Kohima, in collaboration with the District Mental Health Programme (DMHP), Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima, on Saturday.
The training aimed to equip faculty and staff with essential knowledge and skills to identify mental health concerns and provide appropriate support and referrals.
The main objectives of the training were to enhance awareness of mental health issues among faculty and staff, to introduce the concept and application of psychological first aid, to help identify early warning signs of mental distress and self-harm and to familiarise participants with appropriate response strategies and referral mechanisms.

The first session, titled “Psychological first aid”, was conducted by Kethozeno Mere, a psychiatric nurse, DMHP. The session focused on the importance of early identification of mental health concerns and providing immediate emotional support.
The second session on “Navigating mental health and common mental disorders and pathways to care” was led by Veronica Nriame, psychiatric social worker, DMHP. The session highlighted common mental health disorders and underscored appropriate referral mechanisms.
