toward improving disaster preparedness, 12 battalion of National Disaster
Response Force (NDRF), in coordination with Longleng district administration,
police and medical staff, conducted a district-level mock exercise on
earthquake scenario at the deputy commissioner’s (DC) complex in Longleng town
on Tuesday.
Speaking at the programme, the DC of Longleng, W Manpai
Phom, acknowledged the 12 NDRF team for conducting the mock exercise in the
district.
He has sought the support of government in making the
working personnel in the district better equipped and trained. He informed that
the district administration would tie-up with the NDRF team in future so that
the district personnel are given such kind of trainings.
- As part of the activities calendar, the mock exercise was
successfully conducted and the rescue system was demonstrated by the team.
- A DIPR report stated that NDRF rescuers led by Dr. Rajiv
Kamal Nath and Inspector W Limathung Odyuo demonstrated search and rescue
techniques on how to approach trapped victims in collapsed buildings, how to
evacuate using emergency and non-emergency moves and provide first aid.
- Emergency medical units were also set up to treat those
injured in the simulated disaster. They also demonstrated rope rescue
techniques.
- Around 100 people including police forces witnessed the mock
exercise.
