Dimapur, April 10
In a bid to promote road safety, Dimapur District Legal Services Authority (DDLSA), in association with the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), organised night Mobile Lok Adalats at two locations in Dimapur on April 9. The primary purpose of the Lok Adalats - set up at Court Junction and 7th Mile - was to ensure that indicator lights of various vehicles were in proper working order.
In random spot-checks conducted by personnel of the DCP (Traffic), a total of 83 vehicles were found plying with defective or non-functional indicator lights. The defaulting vehicles were penalised under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, with nominal fines amounting to a total Rs 12,800.
DDLSA panel lawyers have stressed on the importance of proper maintenance of vehicle lights in the larger interest of public safety. DDLSA has been conducting such Lok Adalats on a regular basis with the objective of creating awareness on both the rights as well as responsibilities of citizens.
