Dimapur, October 9 : A legislator from Nagaland with a delegation of Indian industry leaders visiting the United States and Canada has invited the first world industries to invest in Nagaland “as the state is rich in minerals resources and it's [an] untapped area.”
The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) led an Indian delegation to the United States and Canada during October 3 and the 7th with the support of federal and provincial governments.
The main focus of the delegation was to connect Canadian and USA organizations and financial institutions interested in working with India, to invest in the infrastructure development of the subcontinent.
The department of Planning & Co-ordination at New Delhi on Sunday offered updates.
The FICCI, which was established in 1927, is the oldest apex business organization in India. It is considered “the voice of India’s industry and business.” It provides a platform for networking and consensus building within and across sectors.
During the event, Neiba Kronu, Nagaland’s parliamentary secretary for Planning & Co-ordination, Evaluation, Monitoring and Taxes, called on companies and share holders to “come and explore, invest in the state as the state is rich in minerals resources and its untapped area.”
While discussing business to business with foreign companies, Kronu highlighted that the state government of Nagaland had decided to set up the Nagaland Investment Board “in order to attract investors and to keep business-to-business, people-to-people contact through public, private partnership mode, joint venture etc., the press release explained.
Kronu also requested the funding agencies to come forward and invest in Nagaland as the state government was ‘looking forward for infrastructure development in roads and highways, railways, air connectivity, power, agriculture, and inland waterways among others.’
The Indian delegates were welcomed by Akhil Tyagi, area director of the South Asia, Ontario, Ministry of International Trade. Manab Majumdar, assistant secretary general of the FICCI introduced the delegates to the dignitaries and gave the opening remarks.
