- WOKHA — Despite
ongoing conflict with contractors and the Nagaland Foothill Road Coordination
Committee (NFHRCC) along with 12 tribal organisations, the two construction
companies namely M/S Chabou & Co. and JK Construction, that did not sign
agreement with the NFHRCC, officially launched the road construction works in
Khumjo Yan (village) under Bhandari sub-division of Wokha district on Friday.
- The launch event was attended by the local area MLA
Achumbemo Kikon of 40 Bhandari Assembly Constituency as the special guest, who
flagged off the construction works starting from Merapani to the Liphayan
Doyang Bridge.
- Speaking to the media after the formal programme, Kikon
stated that there should not be any two agreements as the contract works are
signed and agreed upon by the government with the concerned department,
resulting in the issuance of the works. He emphasised that individuals and
organisations have to play a contributory and positive role in completing the
work. He urged the NFHRCC to come together and help complete the work within
the stipulated time.
- He expressed that without concealing any facts, the
programme was held transparently by inviting all stakeholders including the
NHRCC and Lotha Hoho, acknowledging their contributions toward the NFHR. He
noted that their absence was their decision.
- Kikon further directed the two firms to start the works
without delay and complete them before the onset of monsoon. He lamented that
due to interventions from external forces, the works had been delayed by three
months as the work orders were issued to all contractors earlier in December
2024.
- Later, he launched the construction work.
- The launch program was attended by local residents,
representatives from the district administration and police in Khumjo Yan.
