Dimapur, March 22 (EMN): An orientation programme focusing on an ‘employability program’ called the ‘Tata Affirmative Action Programme’ was conducted by members of Centre for Microfinance and Livelihood (CML) of Guwahati on March 20 in Mokokchung town. The event was conducted in collaboration with the Care & Support Society of Mokokchung in the society’s office premises.
13 candidates participated in the daylong event, it was informed. The Care and Support Society informed that it will be the point of contact for registration from Mokokchung district. More unemployed graduates who are 28 years and below as per their academic date of birth and also who are genuinely interested in the program will be taken on board, the group stated in a press release to the media.
During the orientation programme, the “skills team” from the Centre for Microfinance and Livelihood stated that the “Tata Affirmative Action Programme” was a residential training program based at Kolkata. It is an employability program, mostly targeting unemployed graduate youths from the underprivileged sections of the society, the updates stated.
Under said program, three states namely Manipur and Meghalaya and Nagaland are covered. The program spans over 14 weeks and is designed by the Tata Consultancy Services with the objective of equipping trainees with basic life skills and essential industry-demanded skills. This is to ensure that they will have better chances of securing jobs, the organisers stated.
Further, the team explained to the participants that the training program had been divided into two modules: the first spans eight weeks during which trainees are taught basic life skills. The second module runs over six weeks. It focuses on extensive skill development training such as basic IT skills and corporate etiquette, among others.
The programme was initiated by the Centre for Microfinance in collaboration with the Tata Consultancy Services which is supported by the Tata Trusts.
“It was further conveyed that the first batch which will be commencing on 8th May, 2017 will be of women’s batch and followed by second batch which are male on 10th of July, 2017. Further discussion with the participants was initiated and thus, the first mobilization drive in Mokokchung district was successfully undertaken with the active participation of Care & Support Society organization’s team,” the press release added.
