The Parliamentary of IPR Khekaho Assumi on Saturday stated that Mokokchung have missed lot for not going for Municipal election for more than a decade’s due to women reservation, while address the closing the ceremony of the XXI MDFA trophy 2015 as the chief guest here at Mokokchung.
“The guideline of the various centrally sponsored schemes says that unless and until a Town or a city has an elected member body, funds shall not be given to those cities and towns. In that process I fear that Mokokchung have loss around 150-200 crore of rupees” he said. The Then chairman of Dimapur Municipal Council also informed that in Dimapur during 2008-10 they have receives around 300 crore of rupees because they had an elected municipal representative and also Kohima had received around 250 crore of rupees during that session.
He also informed that the women reservation verdict is almost like to be given a decision by coming months. “I sure we will see a verdict in favor of women reservation….though it’s unofficial,” he disclosed.
“If the said women reservation is to be had in the state, I don’t know whether the Mokokchung Municipal election will also be held then. That is to all of us to reason out and see whether we to have Municipal election with or without the Women reservation, but in the process of not having it we are losing a lot,” Khekaho asserted.
He also said one’s the Supreme Court has given its verdict, they will also give dateline for holding election within 45 days or three months.
Lauding the trend followed by the Ao people for nominating one representative each from the Sumi and Nepal community during Town Committee Council period, Khekaho expressed his hope that the Ao Community will continued the same trend if election is held here.
Khekaho Assumi expressed that Mokokchung is the front runner in the field of sports and games as far as the 11 district of the state is concern. Ha also added that Mokokchung is doing its best in the field of football and badminton.
