Dimapur, June 9:A one-day training for nurses on district mental health programme was held at IDSP conference hall, IMDH Mokokchung, on June 9.
Dr. Medem, Medical Superintendent IMDH, Mokokchung, in his welcome speech, thanked all the nurses and the participants for attending the training. He challenged the participants to take the training as a privilege and draw maximum advantage of the training. Exhorting that learning is a continuous process, Dr. Kibangkumba, Deputy CMO, Mokokchung, urged the participants to learn from birth to death. He said mental health is important as people are not aware of it earlier. He also challenged the participants to derive maximum profit from the one day training.
Dr. Temsuyanger, DIO (RCH& UIP) who is also the District Nodal officer for Mental Health and the facilitator of the training, trained the participants on different mental health programme. He explained about mental illness and its common types like anxiety disorder, mood disorders, psychotic disorders, somatoform disorders, childhood mental disorders, etc. He said mental is a disease that causes mild to severe disturbances in thought and behaviour resulting in an inability to cope with lives ordinary demands and routines.
The other facilitators of the programme were Azungla, clinical psychologist; Monica Phom, psycho social worker; and Ajungla, tutor.
The participants were also trained on different mental health problems like psychological care, psycho social care, myths about mental illness and psychiatric nursing care.
