Dimapur, July 21 (EMN): Mizoram XI won the North East (U-19) Girls Football Tournament after thrashing Sikkim XI 3-0 at the IG Stadium in Kohima on Sunday, July 21.
In the final, Mizoram XI was the aggressive team with its attacking game right from the start, but could not break the strong Sikkim XI defence in the first half of the match.
Mizoram XI, however, came back stronger in the second half and got the first breakthrough in the 15th minute of the second half. Two more goals were scored back to back in the 73rd and 78th minute.
The champion team received INR 75,000 along with trophy and citations, while the runners-up team received INR 50,000 with trophy and citations. The golden boot was awarded to Miriam Lalnungsiam of Mizoram XI who scored a total of six goals. Zairemmawii from Mizoram was adjudged the valuable player and Reema Gurung of Sikkim XI received the best custodian award. Teams standing 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th also received INR 30,000, INR 20,000, INR 15,000, INR 12,000, INR 10,000, and INR 8,000 respectively.
The tournament was organised by HQ IGAR (N) Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ DGAR.
