DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 14: “Yes, age indeed is just a state of mind,” the Mizoram Journalists’ Association stated of Lalbiakthanga Pachuau, the editor of a vernacular newspaper Zoram Tlangau.
The veteran was feted as the oldest working journalist in the country during a function in Mizoram’s capital Aizawl on Thursday.
The government of Mizoram and the Mizoram Journalists’ Association’s, the apex body of all journalist in the state, declared Lalbiakthanga as the oldest working journalist in the country.
“The Minister of Information and Public Relations Department Mr Lal Thanzara today handed over a citation in recognition of the claim and for his numerous contributions to the society mainly social work,” the organization stated in a press release to the regional media on Thursday.
“Mr Lalbiakthanga is one of the 4 Prominent Press Representatives for life, a recognition given by the Mizoram government. He is now 90 years running. He wrote his first news article on May, 16, 1953 in Zoram Thupuan newspaper and started publishing and editing his own daily newspaper Zoram Tlangau since 1970 till today,” the organization stated.
Also, he had been elected as the president of Mizoram Journalists’ Association for 3 terms.
