DIMAPUR — Mission SOAR Nagaland and the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) conducted a one-day workshop on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in education and textbook innovation in Kohima on March 13.
According to an update, the workshop explored how AI can strengthen academia, improve office productivity, and support textbook development.
It highlighted how emerging tools can help educators and institutions work more effectively while keeping pedagogy, purpose, and student learning at the centre.
Mission partner Shikha Institute showcased Sakhee, a custom AI application designed to support the development of high-quality textbooks aligned with the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) and the National Education Policy (NEP).

It brought together participants to explore how AI can support academic work, improve office productivity, and strengthen the development of quality learning materials in ways that are thoughtful, practical, and aligned with educational purposes.
The sessions introduced participants to real and emerging applications of AI in academic institutions. These included the use of AI in academia, tools for improving workplace efficiency, and ways in which AI can support syllabus design, textbook blueprinting, and textbook development.
The programme concluded with a discussion on school leadership course structure and action steps for the way forward.
Mission SOAR Nagaland is a collaborative education transformation initiative led by the Department of School Education and supported by the Elevate Foundation.
Speaking on the significance of the workshop, Kevisato, founder of NagaEd and director of the Elevate Foundation, said, “Artificial intelligence is not a replacement for educators, vision, or human connection. Its real value lies in how it can strengthen the hands of those already working to build better schools and better futures.”
“This workshop was meaningful because it helped us look at AI not as an abstract idea but as a practical tool that can support our academic and institutional work," said Daniel Thong, Head of IE and ICT, SCERT.
Temjenmenla, Deputy Director of SCERT, added, “Through the use of AI, our quality of work can improve, and things can be done with better planning and support administration through better management and strategy. It was beneficial, especially in how we can use AI to frame lesson planning for the classroom.”
Karishma Shanghvi, Director of the Shikha Institute and Mission SOAR consortium partner, said, “With Sakhee, our goal is to support the creation of high-quality curriculum material that is rigorous, relevant, and aligned with national frameworks because the students of Nagaland deserve the best.”
