CELEBRATING 25 years of Miss Sumi beauty pageant, the organising committee-Sumi Totimi Hoho (STH) and Western Sumi Totimi Hoho (WSTH) announced the upcoming event Miss Sumi 2016 scheduled to be held on November 8, 2016 at Agri Expo Dimapur. This was announced at a press conference held at Tourist Lodge Conference Hall Dimapur on Monday, September 19.
In first of its kind, the pageant which has been organised at district Headquarter Zunheboto in the past years will be held at Dimapur this year considering that half of the Sumi population resides in Dimapur district, STH President Kitoli Naje said.
With the theme “Echt Sülimi”, this year the pageant will focus on the originality of Sumi tradition where among the four rounds of the contest, one question round will be conducted in Sumi dialect and test the fluency of youngsters in their mother tongue. A special sub title in this category is also being introduced, informed STH Vice President Kalito.
Conveying that the emphasis laid on beauty pageants will empower women, the organising committee articulated that the STH and WSTH will ensure the winners are given opportunity in various arenas so that they bring change in the community.
The contest will be judged on four rounds-ethnic Wear, modern ethnic wear, designer wear and formal evening wear.
The beauty pageant is open to all genuine Sumi citizens who meet the following criteria with height of minimum 5’5 between the ages of 18-25 years.
The winner will be rewarded with cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh along with gift hampers while the first and second runner up will be rewarded with Rs 75, 000 and Rs. 50, 000 along with gift hampers. The sub title winners will be rewarded with Rs. 15, 000 along with gift hampers.
Earlier the pageant was organised by the All Sumi Students Union (SKK), however this year it is being jointly organised by the STH and WSTH.
With a view to provide platform to young Sumi talents, the organisers have robbed in designers and choreographers who will officially manage the show, informed WSTH President Viholi Zhimomi.
