Diphu, Jan. 23 (EMN): Taking chances on darkness of the night, unidentified miscreants have cut down nine numbers of white sandalwood trees and decamped from a reputed bio-diversity cum recreation park in Diphu during wee hour on January 23.
According to Jemson Kro, Ranger in-charge of the recreation park, informed this reporter, that a total of nine white sandalwood trees (Santalum Album in scientific name) were cut down by some unidentified persons from inside the park around 2-3 AM this morning. He said that out of the nine trees, eight trees were taken away leaving one tree behind.
The approximately amount of the trees was estimated around INR 12-13 lakh, said Kro. He further informed that FIR has been lodged and investigation was on till the time this report was filed.
