Dimapur, Oct. 25: Following the Eastern Mirror report on Oct. 24 about the menace of monetary collections by various agencies at the check gates in Dimapur, the Excise department has warned its personnel of severe action if found indulging in such activities.
It is worth mentioning that a sand truck driver, who wished to remain anonymous, had disclosed that the ‘Excise department also charge INR 300’ per truck at the Nagaland Police new field check gate.
A press release sent by the commissioner of Excise department on Thursday stated, “Any Excise personnel stationed in the check gate found indulging in collection of money from any vehicle will be severely dealt with as per the law. Through this press communiqué, the standing notification and orders pertaining to check gate guidelines is further reiterated.”
The assistant commissioner of Excise, Moarenba Pongen, told Eastern Mirror over telephone that the department had taken notice of the ‘complaints’ through the report published by this newspaper. He said that the money collected by the department’s personnel is “completely illegal.”
Pongen said that this first of such ‘complaint’ to have come to his notice since being posted in Dimapur in March 2017. The department has sought active cooperation of the public and to report any underhand dealings by its personnel at the check gates at this number: 9436006452.
