Jacob Zhimomi inspected the rain-damaged Zhekishe-Vikheto road in Niuland, assuring affected residents that repair measures would be taken up with authorities.

DIMAPUR — Minister of PHED and Cooperation Jacob Zhimomi on Friday inspected the road stretch between Zhekishe and Vikheto villages under Aghunaqa EAC Circle in Niuland district, a major portion of which has been washed away by incessant rainfall.
Accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner of Niuland, district administration officials, civil society organisations (CSOs) and frontal organisations, Zhimomi heard the grievances of residents of the affected villages and assured them that the matter would be taken up with the concerned authorities at the earliest, an update stated.
The affected road stretch serves as a lifeline for around 18 villages and also provides connectivity to neighbouring Assam.
The damage has severely disrupted public transportation, movement of goods and the daily commute of schoolchildren, besides hampering economic activities in the area, it stated.
The Aghunaqa Kukami Kuqhakulu appealed to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, through Minister Zhimomi, to initiate immediate repair works on the damaged stretch to restore connectivity and prevent any major tragedy.
During his visit, Zhimomi also visited the Border Rest House at Aghunaqa headquarters, where personnel of the 12th IR are stationed.
He interacted with the jawans and encouraged them to maintain discipline and remain alert at all times, stressing that law and order and public security must not be compromised under any circumstances.
