Dimapur, Jan. 31 (EMN): As a part of ‘Prakriti, Paryavaran Aur Hum-Green march’ campaign, RN Jindal, director (CP division) of the Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change visited Nagaland during Jan. 28-31. A press release issued to media on Wed. informed about the programme.
The director visited John Government Higher Secondary School, Viswema in Kohima and Highland Hall School, Naga United Village in Dimapur.
During the visit he shared about the components and importance of the campaign and encouraged the students to take part in initiatives to improve the environment and to be ambassadors of the campaign.
The green pledge was also administered to the students.
A cleanliness drive was also conducted on Jan. 29 at the Children’s Park in Kisama Heritage village with participation of officials from the Forest department, Kohima division; Nagaland Pollution Control Board; student leaders and students from Kigwema village.
The director has informed that the ministry has decided to take the initiative of Swachh Bharat, Harit Bharat forward in a campaign titled ‘Prakriti, Paryavaran Aur Hum-Green march.
Activities under this initiative includes involving citizens, students, youth and others to take up activities in the areas of biodiversity conservation, pollution abatement, waste management, environmental education and awareness, non-conventional energy, environment research and development, he said.
Jindal also informed that the initiative is to create a network of “Paryavaran (Environment) Rakshak” in schools, colleges, villages, municipal wards among others.
To make parks, lakes, gardens, beaches, tiger reserves, national parks; plastic free through peoples’ involvement; to educate people / industry / NGOs on innovative and sustainable waste management practice proposal of the project.
