Dimapur, May 4 (EMN): As part of his ongoing tour to all the districts of Nagaland, Public Works department Minister Tongpang Ozukum visited Mon on May 4 where he inspected roads and interacted with government officers.
A press release from the aide to the minister informed that officers from the PWD (roads and bridges) division of Mon has informed the minister that ‘pothole filling works’ have been completed in most of the roads. ‘Bituminous works’ are ‘yet to be done’ though.
Seeing the progress of works, the minister is said to have expressed satisfaction and for which he lauded the officers. The updates stated that officers from the Housing and Mechanical divisions, among others, spoke about problems they have. The minister was stated to have responded in the ‘affirmative.’
Ozukum then visited the PWD store in Mon town, where he was informed about land encroachment into the premises of the store. Also, members of the Mechanical division are said to have informed the minister about the need to have a working shed and garage in the premises of the store.
In this regard, the minister asked the subdivision officer (mechanical) to submit a proposal, the updates stated.
Later, the minister visited the office of the executive engineer (roads and bridges) of the division and meet with officers and the district administration. In the meeting, the minister reminded the officers about the commitment of the Progressive Democratic Alliance government to bring changes. He has sought their cooperation to make the objective a success.
“We want to see the efficiency of the engineers and for which we have allotted the works to the department. It is like an acid test for all engineers and so you must show what you are capable of,” he said.
In the meeting, the minister requested Mon’s Deputy Commissioner K Thavaseelan to ‘extend support’ to the department in repairing the roads besides seeing to redress for protection of government land.
The deputy commissioner is said to have requested the minister to ‘seriously look’ into various pending road projects in the district.
