Dimapur, April 28 (EMN): Nagaland minister of Transport and Land Resources P Paiwang Konyak has sought a one-time special package of INR 30 crore for the development of coffee in Nagaland.
Konyak made this appeal during a meeting with the Union minister of Commerce and Industry Suresh Prabhu at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan in New Delhi.
Konyak sought a one-time special package of INR 30 crore for three years at the rate of INR 10 crore per year to set up of nurseries, and for maintenance of plantation ‘to wean away farmers from ‘jhum’ cultivation, and establishment of infrastructure for water harvesting, and for training and tours.
A press release issued by the PRO (IPR) of Nagaland House at New Delhi, Kuolie Mere, stated that the union minister has ‘agreed to the proposal and assured him for sanctioning the package in the current financial year to promote coffee plantation in the state.’
