DIMAPUR — Nagaland’s minister of Horticulture and Women Resource Development, Salhoutuonuo Kruse, attended the Khukhwiinyi festival-cum-inauguration of Kracüki at Tsieyama Khel in Jotsoma village on September 13. The event also marked the 50 years of Tsieyama Nuolhou Kehou.


Khukhwünyi is a celebration of a girl child, which is celebrated every year in the month of September. The festival is celebrated to honour girl child by giving due respect and regard till they attain teenager.


Speaking at the event, Kruse emphasised that the rich culture and traditional practices like songs, dresses, indigenous games and festival of the forefathers should be preserved and pass down to the younger generation.

“Though the Naga society has evolved to Christianity, yet, we should always preserve our identity as a Naga by safeguarding and preserving our rich culture,” the minister said.


She encouraged the womenfolk to continue practicing farming and grow organic vegetables and fruits, which has huge market demand in the state and beyond. She also encouraged them to avail the different schemes being extended by the state government.


Besides, Kruse also encouraged the youth to continue striving for excellence in education, which is a prerequisite for all round development and wholesome growth. She informed that the present government under the leadership of Chief Minister, Dr. Neiphiu Rio, and the president of Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), Chingwang Konyak, is committed to serving the people under its guided motto “Facta Non Verba.”


Referring to other developmental works in 8th Western Angami Assembly Constituency, Kruse informed that the multi-purpose indoor stadium has been completed and inaugurated in Sechü- Zubza in July this year. She also said that the ongoing PMJSY project with black topping provision would soon connect all the villages within the constituency.


Stating that there are many more projects in the pipeline, she urged the denizens to come together for the all round development.

Earlier, Kruse inaugurated Kracüki, constructed under LADF 2024-2025.


The programme was chaired by Lhousarovi Paul, while significance of the Khukhwünyi was highlighted by Lhuphrevilie Rino.

The programme concluded with Khukhwünyi feast.
