KOHIMA — Minister
of Women Resource Development and Horticulture, Salhoutuonuo Kruse, on
Wednesday inaugurated the newly upgraded Government High School (GHS) at
Midland in Kohima.
Addressing the inaugural programme, Kruse expressed delight
on the upgrade of the school with current enrolment of 177 students, which was
established in 1967. She also acknowledged the land donor of the school,
Raneilie Belho and family.
She also acknowledged the Department of School Education led
by its advisor, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, for doing the needful in upgrading
the school.
She maintained that government schools are the best as the
teachers have the requisite qualifications. Stating that government is
providing students with uniforms, note books and mid-day meal and without
charging fees, she urged the parents to send their children to government
schools.
Meanwhile, the minister also called upon the teachers to
help students in realising their full potential and talents, which would leave
an impact on the lives of the students so that they would be remembered even in
the future. She reminded that being a teacher is a blessing, which is a noble
profession, although it might not be acknowledged by mankind.
She further urged the teachers to work harder and be
dedicated to moulding the children to become a better generation for society in
order to let peace reign.
The director of School Education, Razouseyi Vese, stated
that to have a good education, it requires four pillars—government department,
community and parents' shared responsibility, teachers' role and students.
He encouraged the students to dream big and give their best
while there is time.
Vese also acknowledged the contribution and support of the
community and parents towards the school.
The chairman of school management committee (SMC), Viphrezo
Zao, highlighted the school’s history and impressed upon the department of
School Education to supplement the posting of a Mathematics teacher, citing
that only one teacher is available in the school. He also sought appointment of
Grade-IV staff at the school.
Earlier, the students presented Nipun Bharat song, while the
welcome address was delivered by Mhashesuno Mekro, head teacher, an invocation
prayer was said by Neisalie Belho, pastor of Midland Baptist Church, Kohima.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by
Kopelo Krome, chairman of Midland Council, Kohima.
