- KOHIMA — Minister
of Women Resource Development and Horticulture, Salhoutuonuo Kruse, on Thursday
dedicated a new water tanker vehicle funded under Local Area Development
Programme (LADP) for five colonies of Kohima under 8th Western Urban Panchayat
Union (WUPU).
- The 8th Western Urban Panchayat Union (WUPU), consisting of
five colonies in Kohima, included New Market, Officer’s Hill, Midland, Daklane
and Naga Hospital.
- Inaugurating the water tanker, the minister said that the government
is providing water but is unable to reach every corner with increased
households every year. She stated that the concept of introducing water came
about considering the water shortage faced by the residents especially during
dry season.
- In order to help those households especially during dry
season, she informed that water would be provided to the residents at
subsidised rate for maintenance of the water tanker vehicle.
- The WUPU will take care of the water tanker managements and
implementations, she added.
- WUPU advisor, Alaku Sekhose, stated that the five colonies
faced water shortage during dry seasons. He informed that some bore wells
arranged by the former MLA could not be utilised in many colonies due to the
presence of minerals.
- He added that a nominal fee would be charged in order to
maintain the vehicle.
- While the implementation of the water tanker was yet to be
finalised, the respective panchayats are likely to be assigned to do the job in
distributing water to the residents.
