KG Kenye urged NPF workers to uphold the party's vision, called for unity among Naga political groups.
CHIZAMI — Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs and Chief Whip of the NPF Legislature Party KG Kenye on Thursday called on Naga People's Front (NPF) workers to remain committed to the party's constitution, vision and objectives while stressing the need for unity among Naga political groups to facilitate an early resolution to the protracted Naga political issue.
Kenye made the remarks while addressing the oath-taking ceremony of the NPF 17th Chizami Area Unit village and town office bearers at Chizami Town Hall in Phek district.
On the Naga political issue, the minister said the aspiration for an honourable and lasting solution remains strong among the Naga people.
However, he expressed concern over the emergence of multiple Naga political groups with differing demands, saying such divisions have become a stumbling block to achieving an early settlement.
Calling for greater unity among the groups, he said an early resolution would pave the way for lasting peace and development in Naga society.
Kenye reiterated that the NPF remains committed to the Naga political cause and urged party workers to continue working towards the party's objectives with sincerity and unity.
Speaking on the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA), the minister said the demand for a separate arrangement for Eastern Nagaland dates back to 2010, when the Eastern Nagaland People's Organisation (ENPO) submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio during the Aoleang Festival.
He said the issue remained largely dormant for more than a decade before gaining momentum under the present government, culminating in the signing of the tripartite agreement on February 5, 2026.
However, he said legislative powers remain under discussion between the Centre, the state government and the ENPO, with consultations continuing.
Referring to the meeting between the Centre and the ENPO in New Delhi on July 29, the third such meeting since last week, he said although the outcome was not known, the public should remain informed and patient as the process moves forward.
Speaking on the situation in Manipur, Kenye said the crisis has persisted for a prolonged period, involving divisions among the Nagas, Meiteis and the Kukis.
He observed that although Manipur has an autonomous body for the hill areas, certain amendments are still required. He also said the issue had resulted in the resignation of four NPF MLAs in the past, adding that the underlying problems have remained unresolved for years.
Stating that the present crisis has evolved from an ethnic and social conflict into what he described as a war-like situation and had become chronic, Kenye said the Chizami Assembly Constituency, which shares a porous border with Manipur, should remain vigilant as people continue to move across the boundary.
Expressing concern over possible foreign interference and other vested interests in the Manipur crisis, he said the Northeast, including Nagaland, shares international boundaries and urged people to remain cautious about geopolitical developments and public discourse.
"We cannot fight another man's war and should not shift the battlefield into our state," Kenye said, adding that it is the responsibility of the Nagaland government and its public leaders to ensure peace within the state.
Congratulating the newly inducted office bearers, Kenye said the party constitution must be upheld, noting that every nation, religion, organisation and institution functions within the framework of a constitution.
The NPF 17th Chizami Assembly Constituency also unanimously adopted two resolutions during the programme.
The house congratulated the newly elected village and town unit office bearers and expressed confidence that they would serve the party with dedication, sincerity and commitment.
It also reaffirmed its support and confidence in the leadership of KG Kenye and extended its fullest support to Neiphiu Rio, Chief Minister and president of the Naga People's Front.
The unit further reaffirmed its commitment to work unitedly to strengthen the party under their leadership.
Short speeches were delivered by advisors Ciekrosayi Lohe, Salünyi Krocha, Shekhozo Thülüo, Ngaonyi Lea, Nievotso Medeo, Ciekhurayi Vadeo, Kelhouvelo Tsuzuh, Vezopa Wezah and Cekropa Tenenu.
Earlier, NPF Phek division president Chubutse Naro administered the oath to the newly elected office bearers.
