DIMAPUR — Nagaland Minister of Power and member of GST Council, KG Kenye, attended the 56th GST Council meeting held in New Delhi on September 3.
Participating in the discussion, the minister thanked the chairperson of the GST Council and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and the Union Government for the ambitious GST reform initiative, the Special Commissioner of State Taxes stated in a press release.
Kenye stated that Nagaland, as a consuming state, is one of the biggest beneficiaries of GST implementation in India.
The GST revenue collection during the first year of implementation in 2017 was INR 187.57 crore. However, the collection has now increased to INR 1076.80 crore in 2024-25.
The state's monthly average GST collection has seen a significant increase, rising to INR 108.33 crore as of August 2025, up from INR 89.73 crore during 2024-25. This represents a notable growth rate of 20.89%, indicating a strong upward trend expected to continue in the long term, he said.

Kenye voiced strong support for the Union's proposal on GST reforms, built on three key pillars: structural reform, rate rationalisation, and ease of doing business.
The minister also expressed gratitude to all the three Group of Ministers and extended all out support to the recommendations of the GoMs on life and health insurance, restructuring compensation cess, and rate rationalisations.
He expressed confidence that the reforms is in the right direction and hope that it will not only benefit the common man in a big way but also facilitate ease of doing business to the MSMEs and help business to grow and boost consumption and production and spur overall economic growth of the country
He also said that the GST reform will further simplify the GST ecosystem in the country in a big way and help facilitate proper tax compliance by the stakeholders and increase the revenue collection of both the Centre and the state in the long run.
Kenye further urged the GST Council members from all the states to support the reform agenda and join hands to strength the sincere effort of the GST Council and make GST truly a good and simple tax in the interest of the nation.
The minister was accompanied by Y Mhathung Murry, Special Commissioner of State Taxes, and Tokatoli Sohe, Deputy Commissioner of State Taxes (Hq).
