DIMAPUR — The 50th Annual Sports Meet of the Niuland Area Sports Association (NASA), commemorating the 50th Hovishe Memorial Trophy, was inaugurated by Minister of Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) and Cooperation Jacob Zhimomi at Hovishe village, Niuland district, on Monday.
Addressing the gathering of 19 teams and participants from various villages, Zhimomi stated that the old ways of aspiring only for central and state services are long gone and that sports has taken a central role in generating employment, income, and social progress.
According to an update, he said that sports in Nagaland is beginning to establish solid ground and urged aspiring sportspersons to rededicate themselves towards achieving success through hard work and sincerity.
Emphasising that physical well-being goes hand in hand with mental well-being, Zhimomi pointed out that sports is the healthiest outlet for young people instead of drugs and alcohol, both of which have brought destruction and chaos in Naga society.
Urging the participating teams to rise to the occasion, the minister challenged them to maintain the spirit of fairness.
While observing that the sports meet has, over the years, been a platform for reaffirming bonds of friendship and brotherhood, Zhimomi expressed hope that it would continue to encourage hope, promote peace, and foster unity.
