- KOHIMA — Nagaland’s
minister of Tourism and Higher Education, Temjen Imna Along, on Tuesday
emphasised the need for Naga unity in order to propel progress and development
in Nagaland.
- Speaking on the first day of a two-day Sükrünye and cultural
celebration organised by the Phek Town Public Forum (PTPF), he remarked that
Naga unity cannot be achieved by Delhi but by the Nagas themselves.
- In this regard, Along asserted the need for all 17 Naga
tribes and sub-tribes to unite, trust one another and work collectively to move
the state forward through God’s blessings.
- The minister emphasised on unity and sought cohesive effort
among the Nagas in order to achieve the shared dream. He also called upon all
the Naga tribes to promote their unique culture and traditions.
- He has called upon the students to excel with their
God-gifted culture and traditions to make Nagaland culturally and traditionally
rich.
- Observing that Nagas are often influenced by global trends,
he urged the people to trust God for their destiny rather than being swayed by
external factors.
- The minister also stressed the importance of inculcating the
dignity of labour among the youth, regardless of their academic qualifications
and encouraged them to avoid idleness or expressing frustrations on social
media against the government, church or public leaders.
- He also urged them to venture out, work hard and gain
firsthand experience, recognising the sacrifices made by their parents for
their education.
- “As one of the most literate states in the country,
Nagaland’s education system should empower its youth to move forward, rather
than forming unions for trivial reasons,” he added.
- While celebrating Sükrünye, the festival of sanctification
and purification of the Chakhesang tribe, the minister appealed to all tribes
of Nagaland to work hard and contribute to the collective progress of the
state.
