Dimapur, Jan. 30 (EMN): Admitting huge infrastructure gap in the state’s health sector, health minister Pangnyu Phom has called for effective and efficient utilisation of available resources through concerted efforts of the people to achieve the national goal.
Pangnyu stated this while inaugurating the Phek District Hospital upgradation programme on January 30. He stated that Phek civil hospital was established with the creation of a separate district with the capacity of 75 bedded. He added that owing to aging of the building and lack of proper infrastructure, the hospital could not function effectively, causing undue hardship to needy people.
Pangnyu also stated that the health system in the state has been steadily progressing to a large extend in the recent past especially with the interventions under the National Health Mission (NHM). Stating that the gap in health infrastructure still remained huge due to limited state resources, he opined that it would be difficult to achieve the national goals unless available resources are utilised effectively and efficiently.
He was optimistic that the goal could be achieved through concerted efforts of the people. In this regard, he called upon all to avail the services from various institutions.
Pangnyu also urged upon all section of the society and civil organisations to recommit themselves towards the communitisation policy of the state government for strengthening of public institution and services through active participation and to promote accountability and transparency. The minister also unveiled inaugural plaque.
The programme was chaired by Dr. Vikeyie Losu, principal director of health and family welfare. The welcome address was pronounced by the principal secretary of health and family welfare, while Dr. K Hosi spoke on behalf of Phek citizens and the vote of thanks was pronounce by Dr. M Tiala Longkumer, medical superintendent, District Hospital Phek.
