Mini legal services camp held in Meluri town to promote legal awareness, free aid, and access to justice for citizens.

DIMAPUR — A mini legal services camp was held at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Meluri town, on April 11, under the aegis of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA), in collaboration with the Phek District Legal Services Authority and Meluri district administration.
According to a DIPR report, Advisor of New & Renewable Energy and NSDMA, Z Nyusietho Nyuthe, who attended the event as the special guest, extended his appreciation to the member secretary, NSLSA, and Phek district for their concern and services to the people of Meluri district and the Pochury people as a whole.
He urged the citizens to make the best use of legal services provided at the camp and encouraged the people to be law abiding citizens.

Neiko Akami, member secretary, NSLSA, in his keynote address, elaborated on the objectives of legal services camps, including free legal aid, implementation of schemes, dispute resolution and spreading awareness about citizens’ rights and entitlements.
He lauded the initiative and encouraged citizens to actively utilise the services provided under the legal services authorities’ framework.
Akami stressed the need for greater awareness to ensure that justice is accessible to all sections of society.
The welcome address was delivered by Duvelu Vero, district & sessions judge-cum-chairperson, Phek DLSA, and the vote of thanks was proposed by Holika Sukhau, judicial magistrate first class-cum-secretary, PDLSA.
Thukutalu Chizo, panel lawyer, PDLSA, chaired the programme.
Earlier, the invocation prayer was offered by Kuthotso Tunyu, pastor, TBCMT.
The event culminated with the formal inauguration of the mini legal services camp by the special guest, marking a step forward in promoting legal awareness and outreach in the district.
PDLSA conducts jail inspection in Phek
Jail inspection-cum-legal awareness programme, organised by the Phek District Legal Services Authority (PDLSA) in collaboration with Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) was at District Jail, Phek, on April 10.
Neiko Akami, member secretary of NSLSA, highlighted the importance of legal awareness in today's society and the need to extend free legal aid to vulnerable groups.
He stressed that inmates and convicts should be informed about the services available to them and encouraged to make use of these facilities.
He also stated that the main purpose of visiting Phek Jail was to ensure that inmates have proper basic facilities and to document the situation for submission to the competent authority for necessary action. At present, District Jail Phek houses 11 convicts and eight undertrial prisoners.
Thomeweu, panel lawyer from PDLSA, spoke on the topic “Early release of convicted persons.” She informed inmates about their rights and entitlements and explained important legal provisions related to prisoners and the public.
She also explained the concept of parole. She clarified that those convicted of serious crimes such as terrorism, rape, and murder are not eligible for early release.
Senior superintendent, Central Jail Dimapur, Solezhol Neikha, also addressed the inmates, saying that everyone makes mistakes and no one is perfect. He assured them that their time in jail is not permanent and that they will eventually be released.
The programme, chaired by Luluta Rhakho, concluded with a mass benediction.
