Dimapur, Jan. 16 (EMN): The five-day 8th state level Mimkut mini Hornbill festival of the Kuki community began on January 15 in Ahthibung town under Peren district with Namri Nchang, advisor of water resources department, as the special guest of the inaugural function.
In his inaugural address, Nchang reminded the gathering that Mimkut, the post-harvest festival, which is celebrated every year in the month of January, is to thank and praise God for the rich harvest showered upon the Kuki community. He also pointed out that the state government has given due importance to tribal festivals to showcase their unique traditions, customs and cultures.
Stating that the world has become a village, Nchang said how well one may be equipped with wisdom and technological knowledge, one would loss his identity without his/ her traditions, customs and cultures. He further wished the Kuki community of Nagaland for the best outcome of the Mimkut festival.
On January 16, inauguration of Lt. Lengjang Kuki Memorial Park at the entrance of Ahthibung town near forest gate was inaugurated by H Khehovi Yepthomi, advisor of tourism, art & culture.
Speaking on the occasion, he appealed to the public in general and Kuki community in particular to foster friendship with other tribes and spread love to all Naga brethren in the district and the state.
Biography of Lt. Lengjang Kuki was released by LL Kuki, president of Kuki Inpi.
Highlights of the day were presentation of cultural dances by Chakhro cultural troupe, Western Sumi cultural troupe, Zeliang cultural troupe from Tening in Peren district, and Kuki cultural troupe.
Thepfuulhouvi Solo, retired principal secretary of forest, also spoke on the occasion. S Tainiu, deputy commissioner, Peren, and chairperson of Mimkut mini Hornbill festival organising committee, chaired the function.
