Dimapur, Jan. 20 (EMN): Mimkut Festival is one of the prominent festivals of the Kuki community. It is celebrated on January 17 every year. The 8th state level Mimkut mini Hornbill festival for 2019 was celebrated with great pomp and gaiety at Ahthibung town in Peren district, a press release from the organisers stated on Sunday. The event was inaugurated by Namri Nchang, advisor for Water Resources on the evening of January 15, the updates from the publicity cell of the 8th Mimkut mini Hornbill 2019 stated.
As host and special guest of the event, Namri Nchang inaugurated various features of the programme such as stalls; traditional cotton ginning, handloom, crafts, tea stalls, food stalls, etc. and opened the indigenous traps for public display. Later on, various artistes from the ‘80s and ‘90s performed.
The evening session of day-three was celebrated with Zhale Neikha, advisor for Youth Resources & Sports as the programme’s special guest. During the event, the beauty pageant Miss Mimkut Lanu 2019 was held under the auspices of Miss Mimkut organising Committee, the updates stated. The event featured Indian fusion and traditional wear designed by Tina Misao.
The Miss Mim Kut Lanu contest was one of the top draws of the celebrations. Nengneichin Hangsing from Kohima was crowned the winner. Lhingneikim Lhoujem of Saijang village and Saron Singson of Inbung village were crowned the first and second runner up, respectively.
