The former ‘Coronation Street’ actress has topped FHM magazine’s annual poll, beating ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’ star Kendall Jenner and last year’s winner Jennifer Lawrence into second and third place respectively.
Kate Upton climbed 14 places to take fourth spot, while new UK ‘X Factor’ host Caroline Flack has soared up the chart from 48th in 2012 and 70th in 2013 to take fifth place.
Singer Ariana Grande came seventh in the poll, which saw over a million votes cast, and ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ star Margot Robbie was seventh.
Rounding out the top 10 were ‘The Only Way is Essex’ star Lucy Mecklenburgh, who reclaimed the eighth spot, ‘Game of Thrones’ actress Emilia Clarke in ninth and Kelly Brook, whose 10th place marked her 18th appearance on the poll, including first place in 2005.
FHM editor Joe Barnes said: “Many congratulations to Michelle on her very worthy win. This year’s 100 Sexiest poll was more keenly contested than ever - we had over a million votes, which was truly incredible. And for me, and the FHM team, it’s great to see a hugely talented UK actress take the top spot.”
New entries this year included Emilia’s co-stars Natalie Dormer and Nathalie Emmanuel in 16th and 75th place, while Kendall’s step-sisters Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian made their first appearances on the list.
However, their 50th and 62nd placings were no match for sister Kim Kardashian West, who took 13th spot.
Rihanna plummeted down the poll this year, dropping from third to 23, while Beyonce and Katy Perry also experienced huge drops. The ‘Crazy in Love’ singer slipped from seventh to 19th, while the ‘Dark Horse’ hitmaker’s ranking went down 13 places to 25.
Among the more unusual appearances was 80-year-old TV baker Mary Berry, who came in 73rd place, one behind Angelina Jolie.
FHM 100 Sexiest supplement comes free with the June edition of FHM magazine, on sale on Thursday (30.04.15).
Jamie Dornan named the hottest hunk
The ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ hunk has ousted last year’s top spot holder Zac Efron into second place after climbing from eighth in 2014 in heat magazine’s annual poll of the sexiest men alive, while One Direction hunk Harry Styles moved up 11 places into third.
Rounding out the top five were Spanish model Diego Barrueco and McBusted drummer Harry Judd, in fourth and fifth place respectively.
Speaking of the survey results, which saw over 195,000 people cast their votes, heat editor Lucie Cave said: “So many hot men, so little time. That’s why we asked the readers of heat magazine to name and rate the 100 hottest men alive. They’ve done us proud - and now we can all drool over the sexiest men in the world, all in one place.”
David Beckham, who has been third for the last two years, dropped down to sixth place, while DJ Calvin Harris - who has previously dated Rita Ora and is rumoured to be romancing Taylor Swift - climbed a staggering 24 places from last year to take seventh spot.
The top 10 was rounded out by three new entries, actor-and-singer Tyler Blackburn, ‘Sons of Anarchy’ star Charlie Hunnam and UK ‘X Factor’ hopeful Jay James.
Leonardo DiCaprio was a surprise omission from the top 101, having been voted in fifth place last year, while Take That’s Gary Barlow, actors Henry Cavill and Bradley Cooper, and diver Tom Daley all lost their places in the top 10.
As well as the ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ star, Ryan Gosling and Benedict Cumberbatch also experienced big falls in their placing this year.
‘Place Beyond the Pines’ star Ryan slipped from 9th to 44th, and ‘Sherlock’ actor Benedict dropped 60 places to 94th.
