Kohima, Nov. 26 (EMN): Much to the relief of schoolchildren across the country, the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has prescribed standard weight limit of school bags for each class.

Schools under the department of Education have been directed to comply with the instructions immediately.
When asked if the School Education department in Nagaland is aware of the central directive, the principal secretary of School Education, Menukhol John told
Eastern Mirror that he is aware of the instruction. He added that the department would be having another meeting with regard to the instructions given by the centre.
“We cannot specify the weight so we have to look into that now,” he said.
According to the MHRD directive, schools should not assign homework to students of class I and II. “Schools should not prescribe any other subjects except language and mathematics for class I and II and language, environmental science, and mathematics for class III to V students as prescribed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training.”
