KOHIMA — Police personnel across the country seized a total of 3,764 arms and 24,000 ammunitions from Northeast insurgents during 2024, according to Crime in India 2024 (Statistics Volume III) released by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
In Nagaland, the report shows that a total of 37 unlicensed arms and 172 unlicensed ammunitions were seized by police from insurgents, while 87 unlicensed arms and 233 ammunitions were recovered from others, including criminals, gangsters, and smugglers, during 2024.
Regarding seizures from NE insurgents by police, the highest number of arms was seized from Uttar Pradesh, with 2,034 arms and 320 ammunitions, while the highest amount of ammunition was seized from Jharkhand, with 111 arms and 1,924 ammunitions.
In terms of overall seizures of arms and ammunitions, including from insurgents and others, the highest number of arms was seized from Uttar Pradesh, with 27,996 arms and 6,247 ammunitions, while the highest amount of ammunition was seized from Bihar, with 4,878 arms and 25,289 ammunitions.

The report shows that a total of 71,261 arms and 89,112 ammunitions from both insurgents and others were seized by the police from across the country during 2024.
Meanwhile, union territories including Andaman and Nicobar, D&N Haveli and Daman and Diu, Ladakh, and Lakshadweep recorded zero seizures of arms and ammunition by police.
Data on the northeastern states shows that 161 arms and 988 ammunitions were seized from Assam; 33 arms and 34 ammunitions from Arunachal Pradesh; 13 arms and 347 ammunitions from Meghalaya; 31 arms and 1,748 ammunitions from Mizoram; 510 arms and 4,708 ammunitions from Manipur; two arms and ammunitions from Sikkim; and 13 arms and 28 ammunitions from Tripura.
In terms of seizures from the insurgent groups, Assam recorded the seizure of six arms and one ammunition; Arunachal Pradesh recorded 24 arms and 29 ammunitions; Manipur recorded 157 arms and 1,627 ammunitions; Mizoram recorded five arms; Meghalaya recorded five arms and 343 ammunitions; and Tripura recorded six arms and 10 ammunitions.
