of Political Science at MGM College and Mount Mary College recently organised
educational tours aimed at providing students with insights into Naga culture,
craftsmanship, and environmental governance.
- The Department of Political Science at MGM College organised
a tour to Diezephe Craft village in Chümoukedima district, with a total of 46
students and one faculty member participating.
- The tour aimed to expose students to the world of Naga
handicrafts and the cultural legacy of the community, stated a press release.
- During the visit, students explored the craft factory and
engaged in hands-on interactions with local artisans, gaining firsthand
knowledge of various handicraft techniques, including wood carving, bamboo
work, and intricate weaving.
- There was an interactive session with the proprietor of the
Craft Showroom, who shared insights into the craft industry, emphasising the
importance of skill development and entrepreneurship in traditional arts.
- Meanwhile, a team of 24 students from the Political Science
department at Mount Mary College, Chümoukedima, undertook a three-day
expedition to Dzükou Valley from February 20 to the 22nd, led by faculty
in-charges Nzanthung Lapon and Tiameren.
- An update stated that the journey combined adventure, governance
insights, and environmental responsibility. Students undertook an approximately
8,500-step climb and explored the valley's landscapes.
- A key highlight was a discussion with valley management,
where students gained insights into environmental governance, tourism policies,
and conservation efforts. The trip concluded with a cleanliness drive,
reinforcing the importance of responsible tourism.
