Metsubo Jamir lists out plans for Mokokchung town

[caption id="attachment_194205" align="aligncenter" width="565"] Minister Metsubo Jamir inspecting an incident-prone area in Mokokchung Town on Monday.[/caption] Our Correspondent Mokokchung, July 9 (EMN): Mokokchung Town might get a new look if things cruise smoothly according to the plans and ideas of Minister of Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, Metsubo Jamir. The Minister called for a press conference after attending the attending the monthly District Planning & Development Boards meeting and spot verifications tour of incident-prone areas inside the Town’s vicinity and the sites for the upcoming developmental projects. While disclosing some of his important agendas for the transformation of Mokokchung Town into a leading township, Jamir said beautification and public convenience and safety are his main primary concern and said that Mokokchung needs to spread out. Among many plans, the minister’s priority included construction of two parking lots to ease the traffic congestion in the main town, initiate beautification of landscape and recreation parks around the town. The minister informed that to facilitate parking space inside the congested town he plans to demolish the old Town Hall and convert it into a multi-purpose marketing-building -cum parking lot at the top floors and also convert DIG Range Mokokchung Resident into a parking plot. He also opined that traffic congestion can be solved through bus services since a bus can reduce ten vehicles for transportation inside the town vicinity. Jamir also wondered why bus services are not up to the mark inside the town and encouraged the young entrepreneurs to invest in public transportation. On setting-up recreational parks, the minister said he has set his targets in three locations- at Sungkomen area, PHED Reservoir area and revamp of P Shilu Ao Memorial Park. He asserted that even though the Town is congested, every wards need space for recreation activities. The minister further informed that for public safety the incident-prone areas will be looked after at the earliest and also disclosed plans of widening the road that stretching from DC office to DC Bungalow.
