Metonger Village Students’ Union holds literary-cum-sports session at Metonger village public ground in Kiphire

DIMAPUR — The literary-cum-sports session of the Metonger Village Students’ Union (MVSU) kicked off at Metonger village public ground in Kiphire on January 3.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, officials, and members of the public, highlighting the spirit of sportsmanship and unity, an update stated.
The programme began with the arrival of the special guest P Shiuto Tikhir, Retd. Assam Rifles officer, followed by the flag hoisting ceremony.
The special guest, in his address, encouraged the participants to uphold discipline, teamwork, and fair play in sports.
The event was emceed by S Tsurehba, MVSU assistant general secretary. An invocation prayer was led by pastor of Metonger Baptist Church, seeking blessings for the smooth conduct of the programme and the participants.
The welcome address was delivered by Toju KN, the union’s literary secretary, setting the tone for the day. Toju expressed hope that the session would foster unity, healthy competition, and a strong sporting culture among the youth.
This was followed by a special number presented by Lutsumong S.
The oath taking ceremony was administered by MVSU games & sports secretary, T Tutsu, where players pledged to play in true sportsmanship and abide by the rules and decisions of the referees.
The vote of thanks was delivered by TL Kius, executive secretary, acknowledging the efforts of all those involved in organising the event. The programme concluded with a benediction pronounced by TL Khiammong, associate women pastor.
The sports events were officially declared open by the special guest. The competitions include volleyball (boys & girls) and badminton (boys & girls), providing a platform for young talents to showcase their skills and promote physical fitness.
The session will concluded on Sunday will career guidance and literary session.
K Sudanvito Justin, Women Resource Development Officer (WRDO), and Limti Y Tikhir, vice president of Tikhir Students’ Union (TSU) were the resource persons for the career guidance. Napoleon K Tikhir exhorted the students during the literary session. The literary competitions included spelling bee, extemporary speech and debate.
