We bring greetings to you all in the name of our Heavenly Father, Jehovah God, on this solemn occasion of the 76th Anniversary of the Naga Plebiscite of the Naga National Council.
In the year 1929, the Naga people submitted a Memorandum to the British Simon Commission, bearing the signatures of twenty senior Naga leaders. The Memorandum boldly declared that the Nagas are not Indians and called upon the British to leave the Nagas alone to determine their own future.
In the year 1946, the Naga National Council (NNC) was formally established, and it took up the struggle for Naga rights through the principles of Non-Violence and Non-Cooperation. On 14th August 1947 — the eve of India's independence — the NNC declared Naga Independence Day and hoisted the Naga National Flag, reaffirming that the Nagas stood apart as a sovereign people. On this historic day, we mark the 76th Anniversary of the Naga Plebiscite of May 16, 1951 a defining and sacred moment when the Naga people, with remarkable unity and courage, expressed their collective will and aspirations to the world. On that day, over 99.9% of the Naga people voted for independence, standing firmly behind the declaration that the Nagas are a distinct people with their own identity, history, and sovereignty. This Plebiscite was not merely a vote — it was a testament to the indomitable spirit of the Naga nation, a declaration rooted in their God-given rights and the deep desire to live in dignity and freedom. On 22nd March 1956, the Naga National Council proclaimed the Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN), also known as the Naga Republic. This date is observed by the FGN/NNC as Naga Republic Day, a day that stands as a pillar of the Naga people's rightful claim to self-governance. The dates and events stated above constitute the sacred history and the legitimate rights of the Naga people. They are not merely records of the past — they are the foundation upon which the Naga national identity and sovereignty stand.
We humbly pray: "Let Thy will be done" for the Naga people, so that all leaders from every corner of the Naga homeland may be united under one common goal — the dignity, freedom, and future of the Naga nation.
