Dimapur, Dec. 27 (EMN): The 24th Meriema Village Youth Games and Sports Association meet got underway with president 11th Northern Angami A/C -11 NDPP Vibeilietuo Kets as the special guest held at Meriema ground on Thur. Dec. 27. The five-day long sports meet will conclude on Dec. 31.
The special guest in his address mentioned that the present government under the able leadership of Neiphiu Rio, the state government is giving due importance to sports to groom the talented youth in the state. He said in this regard the government is reviving the Dr. T. Ao tournament to boost the local youths to par with the rest of the country.
Stressing on the need of sanitation, he urged the six khels of the village to come up with the idea to maintain cleanliness in the village. He encouraged the villagers to take advantage of the state capital near their village and make most use of it for their benefits. He reminded the gathering that any village or society cannot progress if they are individualistic and narrow minded and encouraged to work together to usher peace, love and brotherhood.
Various sports like athletics, football, volleyball and others for both for men and women will be played during the 5-day long sports meet.
