Merhülietsa FC lift Morning Champions Cup

KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 26: Merhülietsa Football Club emerged as the champions of the first Morning Champions Cup after their victory against Medical XI at Jakhama local ground on September 26. The Merhülietsa FC came from behind to lift the trophy and subsequently they were lucky to come victorious in the tie break.  The match headed for tie-break as both the teams were locked in 1-1 draw till the end of the stipulated 90 minutes of play and even the allotted extra time. The Medical XI took an early lead when Kekhrie scored in the 11th minute to take advantage till the first half, however, the Merhülietsa FC fought back determinedly to stay in the game and found the equalizer through a brilliant goal from Isak in the 71st minute. Earlier, before the final match, the third place match was played between the Morning Football Club (MFC) and the Amur Falcon Football Club (AFFC), wherein, MFC emerged as the winners by 2-1. Akum of AFFC opened the account in the 25th minute to end the interval. After the lemon break, Vikou of MFC scored the equalizer in the 57th minute. Taking the AFFC by surprise, Dikwa of MFC scored the second goal in the 72nd minute to seal the match in favour of his team. A total of six teams participated in tournament. The other teams were Merhulietsa Sunrisers and PowerComm Football Club. Meanwhile, Morning Football Association (MFA), the decision making body of the Morning Premier League (MPL) and the Morning Champions Cup (MCC), has announced that registration for interested teams for next year MPL will be made open till  November 30. The organizers have informed that only two new teams would be included for the next season from the present six teams.
