Mokokchung, September 5: Advisor to the State chief minister, Merentoshi R Jamir, on Monday underlined the need for constructive criticism and suggestions which are a pre-requisite for good governance and to bring about changes in the society, while he noted with regret that in today’s scenario there only negative criticisms without any suggestions for change.
Addressing the 55th Teachers’ day celebration organised by the Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) at Town Hall, Mokokchung, as the chief guest, he said the youth today want change but the criticism comes without suggestion for change, which according to him is a dangerous trend for the society.
While stating that changes we need-will come from schools and colleges, he said unless the teachers inculcate positive attitudes among the students this negativisms trend will continue and ultimately destroy the society.
While admitting the prevalence of corruptions in the society, Merentoshi advocated change of mindset and attitude to address the problems and make a corruption free society. In this context, he suggested concerted effort from every individual to bring about change in the society.Merentoshi also called upon AKM and civil organisations to be the bridge between the students, teachers and parents and to fight for the rights of the student community. However, he said they must first understand the problems before taking the next step. “In Nagaland today it is very sad to say that students in uniform are being used to further their agendas. Protest and agitation should be there but after understanding the problem,” he said.
In this connection, he requested the civil societies to use the children wisely before calling for agitation. He added that they must educate the students, make them understand and realise what they are agitating for.
Guest of honour and the Director of Higher Education, I Alempokba, suggested that a more scientific and acceptable system should be evolved for the evaluation of the best teachers award in the district. Lauding the AKM for organising grand Teachers’ Day celebration every year, he also urged AKM to be a good stakeholder in education sector.
Meanwhile, a book titles “Kishi Tezülen (Off the doorway)” written by T Senka Ao, former Editor of Ao Milen, was also released by Merentoshi R Jamir.
District Teachers Award, Sub-Divisional Award and Achiever Award by (EFOM) were given away to the recipients by the chief guest and the guest honour respectively.
