Dimapur, Feb. 13 (EMN): Agricultural Technology Management Agency (Atma), Mokokchung, in association with State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (Sameti), Medziphema, conducted a six-day skill training of rural youth (Stry) programme on vermicomposting in Merangkong village under Tuli block, Mokokchung, from February 7 to the 12th.
In a press release, Atma Mokokchung stated that its deputy project director, Sentinaro Longchar, has highlighted on the aims and objectives of the training and encouraged all the participants to actively take part during the training.
The resource persons were Samuel Anar, ACTO (Agronomy) from KVK, Tuengsang, Sentinaro Longchar along with BTM and ATM of Tuli block. Resource persons spoke on introduction to vermiculture and vermicomposting, importance of vermicompost, overview of potential benefits and constraints, steps of vermicomposting and methodology, identification of basic characteristics of worm, selection of site and physical requirements of vermicompost unit, construction of vermicomposting site, working with worms, nutrient content of vermicompost, pest and diseases, environmental risk and benefits, application of vermiwash, scope of vermi technology in organic farming and post harvest management.
It stated that topics on revenue generation, basic marketing skills and success stories on vermicomposting were also shared to the participants. Besides, hands-on demonstration on preparation of vermi-bed was conducted where all the trainees have actively participated.
It stated that the six-day training concluded with a valedictory programme where certificates were distributed to the participants. Altogether, 16 unemployed youth from Merangkong village attended the skill training programme. Inputs such as portable vermicompost beds and worms (eiseniafetida) were distributed to the participants.
