Mengu Village Council in Chümoukedima prohibits hunting and fishing, announces fines for violations and sets deadline for land certificate renewal.

DIMAPUR — The Mengu Village Council, Chümoukedima district, has issued a notification stating that hunting by outsiders within its jurisdiction is strictly prohibited.
The council stated that failure to abide by the directive would be dealt with as per the provisions of the Village Regulations Act, which includes seizure of arms, hunting materials, and vehicles used for committing the crime.
It informed that after necessary penalisation by the village council, materials such as guns and vehicles used for hunting would be handed over to the concerned authority for further action. It requested villagers not to invite or bring any outsider for hunting in the village.
The council also stated that using batteries for fishing in the rivers and tributaries is strictly banned. Violators will be fined a minimum of INR 5000, and seized materials will not be returned.

Collection of forest products like firewood, vegetables, wood, and bamboo products for construction from others' property is strictly prohibited.
Defaulters will be fined INR 20,000 or more, and the products along with the vehicle will be confiscated and handed over to the concerned authority.
The council further informed all villagers who are yet to clear their land and verify and renew their village landholding certificates to do so by December 30. A cancellation drive will be initiated with effect from January 2026.
With the approaching festive season, the village will conduct general social work on December 9. All concerned have been requested to be present.
