Mengu village adopts resolutions on land use, schooling

- DIMAPUR — The
Mengu village in Chümoukedima district held its annual general meeting on
Saturday at the Government Primary School and deliberated on various issues
concerning the village's recognition and development.
- An update mentioned that during the meeting, resolutions
were adopted, which included that every land or plot holder is directed to
construct their house on their land on or before December 31, 2025.
- Failing to comply with this resolution, the council, in
consultation with advisors and seniors, shall identify the plot/land, and the
necessary procedures shall be initiated as per the provisions of the village's
law laid down in the holding certificate.
- Also, it was resolved to identify those lands or plots that
have been left unattended for several years, and these shall be treated as
cancelled. The necessary procedures shall be initiated as laid down in the
landholding certificate. No claims or complaints shall be entertained
thereafter. Therefore, all village landholders have been requested to develop
their land at the earliest.
- It was decided that all children studying in class four and
below and residing within the village jurisdiction are to enrol in the village
school. Failure to do so will invite stern action from the village council. It
was also decided to give a one-time cash incentive to those students who take
admission for the 2025 academic session from now on.
- To raise funds for setting up culverts in various areas, as
well as for the maintenance of roads, including the construction of a new
approach road to the village cemetery.
- Further, the meeting also reiterated its earlier resolution
that the keeping of sophisticated arms for hunting or any other purpose by the
caretaker is strictly banned. The burning of jungles, hunting, and collecting
of forest products within the village jurisdiction remain prohibited, and
violators shall be sternly dealt with as per the law.
- Earlier, village advisor KT Vilie, while sharing a brief
history of the village, also asked the members to remember the legacy of the
founder of the village, Lt. TL Angami, whose vision and sacrifices led to the
establishment of the village. He called upon the villagers to sincerely
contribute to the development of the village.
