DIPHU — Members of various sahitya sabhas attended the third day of the 32nd general conference of Karbi literary body Karbi Lammet Amei (KLA) at Rongthelu Aklam, Karbi Anglong.

During the opening session, Kamala Kanta Machahary, general secretary of the Indigenous Tribal Sahitya Sabha, Assam (ITSSA), lauded the Prime Minister of India for emphasising the importance of North East India’s languages.

He stated that for the first time after 75 years of India’s independence, the Prime Minister of India has designated the regional languages of Northeast India as the medium of education through the implementation of NEP 2020.

He also remarked that the Karbi Language Association (KLA) has encountered challenges in establishing the Karbi language as the medium of instruction and recounted the initiative undertaken by ITSSA, which engaged with the centre to urge the Prime Minister to adopt the regional languages of Northeast India as the medium of instruction in education.

The conference was attended by KLA president Barim Engti, president of Deori Sahitya Sabha Dr. Harananda Deori, general secretary of Rabha Sahitya Sabha Rajkumar Rabha, Padmashree Rongbong Terang and Dhaneswar Engti, among others.
