The Meluri Town Sümi Community was formally inducted as a sub-unit of the Sümi Hoho during the Tuluni festival celebration in Meluri.

DIMAPUR — Officials of the Sümi Hoho attended the Tuluni festival celebration at Meluri town, organised by the Meluri Town Sümi Community at Sumi Baptist Church, Meluri Town, on July 8.
The President of the Sümi Hoho, Dr. Vihuto Asumi, attended the occasion as the special guest, according to an update. During the event, the Meluri Town Sümi Community was inducted as a sub-unit of the Sümi Hoho.
In his address, Dr. Asumi spoke on the significance of Tuluni, describing it as a festival of abundance and thanksgiving for a bountiful agricultural season. He said Tuluni is a festival of feasting and hospitality, where families, relatives, and friends come together to celebrate the blessings of life.
He further noted that it is a festival of reconciliation and peacemaking, of strengthening social bonds, particularly among betrothed couples, and of celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Sümi people through traditional songs, dances, and community gatherings.

Dr. Asumi stated that the Sümi community is permanently settled and has established its presence across Nagaland, which places the Sümi people in a unique position to foster peace, unity, and harmonious relationships with all tribes and communities.
Stressing the importance of maintaining cordial inter-tribal relations, he expressed happiness over the reaffirmation and strengthening of the longstanding relationship between the Sümi and Pochury people.
To mark the formal induction of the Meluri Town Sümi Community as a sub-unit of the Sümi Hoho, Dr. Asumi unveiled the plaque of induction, officially welcoming the community into the Sümi Hoho.
The programme was also addressed by the Deputy Commissioner of Meluri, Phuleshe Yeptho, and the President of the Pochury Hoho, Chonpa Jurry.
