IMPHAL — National People’s Party (NPP) National President and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma is scheduled to arrive in Imphal on a two-day visit to Manipur on Thursday.

The visit comes at a critical juncture in Manipur’s political landscape, as the state remains under President’s Rule since February 2025, following the resignation of former Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh on February 9 amid ongoing unrest.

During his visit, Sangma is expected to hold consultations with NPP leaders, community representatives, and members of civil society organisations to explore the potential for inclusive governance.

He is scheduled to arrive at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Imphal, around 1 pm and will meet party MLAs, civil society organizations, and community leaders before meeting Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan on Thursday afternoon.

On Friday morning, Sangma will address a press conference in Imphal before heading to Dimapur via Kangpokpi, according to party sources.

Political observers note that Sangma’s visit may play a pivotal role in shaping future political alignments and dialogue between communities.

Last month, former Lok Sabha MP from Manipur’s Outer Parliamentary Constituency, Dr. Lorho S. Pfoze, resigned from primary and active membership of the Naga People's Front and formally joined the NPP at a function in Shillong.

The NPP, which has seven legislators in Manipur, had initially extended support to the BJP-led government two days after N. Biren Singh was sworn in as Chief Minister on March 23, 2022, giving the BJP-led government a total of 54 legislators in the 60-member House.

However, the party withdrew its support in November last year, citing "deep concern" over the prevailing situation in the state.
