Medoto Puro clinched the senior title at the 47th Mesulumi Wrestling Association meet in Phek district, highlighting Nagaland’s rich wrestling tradition.

DIMAPUR — Medoto Puro emerged champion in the senior-most category at the 47th edition of the Mesulumi Wrestling Association (Mewunye), held at Mesulumi in Phek district on March 14.
In the senior category, Rhiku Thele finished as first runner-up, followed by Wezütsho Venuh in second place and Wewute Thele in fourth position.
The annual wrestling meet, held under the theme “Stewardship Towards Our Cultural Identity”, featured competitions across six age groups, ranging from 9–10 years to 19 and above.

The programme was chaired by Media Secretary Dr. Dingupe Lasuh and began with an invocation by Pastor Medochü Vadeo of MBC. Association President Tewetso Tsüha delivered the welcome address, while General Secretary Lonyi Puro acknowledged the guests and sponsors.
Guest speaker Ape Puro, a fitness instructor and entrepreneur, spoke on maintaining health through proper diet, hygiene and lifestyle, and urged participants to remain disciplined. He also highlighted the cultural significance of Mewunye as a traditional festival passed down through generations.
The event was attended by former wrestlers and officials, including Zacüta Puro of the Nagaland Wrestling Referee Board. An exhibition bout was held between Kuvene Puro and Theputha Hesuh, while fitness athletes Vekutho Nyekha and Visa Zashümo also took part in demonstrations.
The competition began with the administering of the oath by Technical official Lhipelo Tsido and concluded with prize distribution by Treasurer Kolo Thele.
